Chairman’s Report
As we come to the conclusion of the 2025 Australian Gin Awards, I would like to say what a pleasure it has been to once again serve as Chair.
I was joined by nine other judges this year, and I am pleased to say that the latest judging panel contains more diversity of expertise and backgrounds, bringing additional depth and knowledge to our team. It is great to keep the Awards evolving by adding fresh minds and palates.
Our new judges are Silvia Segato from Archie Rose, Steve McDermott from the International Spirits Academy, and Hamish MacKenzie and Rohan Smith from Hickson House. We also welcomed back our international judge, gin expert and author George Grbich from New Zealand.
A big thank you must go to our dedicated core team of Charles Casben, Lindsay Silcox, Glenn McPhee, Ally Ayres, Alana House, and chief steward Chris Rose. We nosed, blind tasted, deliberated and commented on every single entry across the week.
Since the inception of the Australian Gin Awards, we have been thrilled to see that the quality and balance of gin entries has become exponentially better. This year was certainly no exception. The entries were of a consistent standard across all categories, from Classic, Contemporary, Old Tom, Matured, Navy Strength, Flavoured, and Liqueurs with a Gin Base.
Overall, we awarded 230 medals: 86 Bronze, 107 Silver, and 36 Gold. All entries were assessed and marked, and the best in category was chosen. Once this process was completed, we had a round table discussion with all judges, and a tasting of the best in categories to determine the ‘Best in Show’. This is tough decision every time because the gins are of such high quality at this stage of the assessment process. Alas, there can only be one ‘Best in Show’, and the results were incredibly close between the final three gins this year. It gives me great pleasure to announce that it was an Old Tom Gin that was named ‘Best in Show’ for 2025.
Thank you to all who entered this year, and I look forward to joining you for another round of the Australian Gin Awards in 2026!

The Australian Gin Packaging Awards Results
The design standard of bottles submitted in this year’s packaging awards was excellent. The winners were proof that an eye-catching label isn’t everything. Thoughtful presentation of legal information, subtle touches in bottle customisation and closures, along with informative tasting notes and distillery story, can make all the difference
